Uganda embraces new celebs as in dumping music celebs

By Drone Reporter

Gone are the days when musicians were celebs. Today, musicians cannot attract any lucrative corporate sponsorship. They are not relevant brands; corporate companies are looking for successful brands as well as personalities.

While musicians are busy fighting for free money in Gulu district; athletes are being rewarded with brand new cars and cash prizes. Talent speaking for itself, which brings the status symbols.

MTN Uganda yesterday, August 13, 2021 rewarded the entire team of athletes who represented the country, as well as their coaches and administrators in the just concluded 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. This is in appreciation of their outstanding performance that earned Uganda 4 medals at the games.

A total of 17 athletes, 5 coaches and 3 administrators who made up the Uganda athletics team contingent to the Olympics have been rewarded with a performance total sum of UGX 175,500,000/-.

This includes UGX 50,000,000/- each to Joshua Cheptegei and Peruth Chemutai for winning gold medals in the 5000m and 3000m Steeple Chase races respectively. Joshua Cheptegei will get another UGX 25,000,000/- for the silver medal he bagged in the 10000m race while Jacob Kiplimo gets UGX 10,000,000 for his bronze medal in the same race.

The cash rewards are not only in appreciation of the individuals exploits but also a celebration of the coming of age of the sport that MTN has supported over the years, through the Uganda Athletics Federation. Since 2004, MTN Uganda has sponsored various grass root athletics programs, the most prominent being the MTN Kampala Marathon.

Such music promos are meaningless today

Basically, the days when a musician would come up with a meaningless song and ended up with a corporate sponsorship worth of millions, are over. Remember when those musicians were brand ambassadors? It is finished. They have reduced themselves to beggars; nobody can admire such beggars. They lowered their statuses and now they are paying for their sins.
