Who is the richest person in all the history?

The richest person in all the history is Hugo Stinnes, also known as the “Inflation King.”

He created a business empire worth more than the entire GDP of the Weimar Republic. And he did it by borrowing unreal amounts of money right as the country went into hyperinflation.

  • After borrowing the money, he invested it into capital like mines and machinery. When inflation exploded, his debts became worthless, but the hard capital he bought became even more valuable.
  • He easily paid off his debts and gained a huge source of revenue.
  • At one point he employed 1% of all Germans. (Comparable Walmart today)
  • He controlled over six hundred companies and sixty newspapers.
  • Using his political power from controlling the media, he exercised sway over the Weimar government to pass policies favorable to business. Practices he helped start include capital-labor bargaining and continue to this day.
  • After he died and the Weimar hyperinflation ended, his business empire fell apart.

Stinnes was probably the richest man during the early 1920s and if you go by on-paper assets, the richest man in history. But his wealth was contingent on inflation and his own speculating, so it collapsed after he died and the inflation ended.
