Anne Kansiime sues UTL wants sh100m
Anne Kansiime has sued Uganda Telecom Limited (UTL) over copyright infringement, and she wants sh100m. The Mukiiga female funniest female in the city says, “You thought I was funny. I want to teach you copy right law,” Ann Kansiime tells UTL.
The broke Uganda telecom company(UTL) is trembling as vendor Anne Kansiime moves to confiscate more than sh100m from its coffers. Mbu Kansiime wants to teach UTL a lesson for messing up with her copyright. The story is, the telecom firm used her image in TV adverts they contracted the defunct WBS and NTV to run on its behalf.
Kansiime dragged UTL to the Commercial Court for infringing on her privacy and pirating her image rights.
The funny lady says UTL used her images without the courtesy of consulting her. She has since won the lawsuit but UTL been struggling to sort her out. She is now moving to raid UTL’s bank accounts and pay herself what is due to her under the court judgement!
UTl is trembling like a Reed in the monsoon winds and is now in court seeking protection. The legal penalties for copyright infringement are: Infringer pays the actual dollar amount of damages and profits. The law provides a range from $200 to $150,000 for each work infringed. Infringer pays for all attorneys fees and court costs.
