Erias Lukwago fails to answer what he will do for the 1.1 million voters who did not vote for him

By Angela Nyakuni

The re-elected Lord Mayor of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Erias Lukwago failed to answer this question: ” Kampala has a total of over 1.3 million voters. Out of these, only 190, 000 ( one hundred ninety thousand) voted for him. What does he have to tell the over 1.1 million who didn’t vote for him?

Lord Mayor who was appearing on one of the FM radios in Kampala, sounded perturbed. The question disrupted his motivational reasoning and was aganzi!

As it looks, if Erias Lukwago is to stick to his approach for the last terms, Kampala will obviously remain the same; floods, rubbish everywhere, traffic jam, vendors selling their merchandize from the middle of the roads as is the case with Namirembe Road, markets stolen and many other chaos.  Literally, no work done by him at the end of the term.

Imagine if Erias Lukwago bent just a little say, telling the central government that sending vendors off the streets is not bad but before you send them away, put them in this place.  Before taking the markets, at least put the people there in this place. This isn’t submitting to the regime. He should be in KCCA to work not to fight the regime.

Surprisingly, after being declared a winner (yesterday, January 21, 2021) he immediately warned President Museveni about interference with Kampala issues. If he sticks to fighting President Museveni, he wont work for Kampala.

On radio when the host asked him for his plans for Kampala, he highlighted them. They are very good plans. However, he has kept them for years and they never got implemented, which he blames this on the regime. That to get the support to implement his plans, he has to submit to the government.

The host asked him if this is something he is willing to do for the good of Kampala people.  Lukwago said no. ” I won’t bend bend to government whims. I am from the opposition  and our laws have space for opposition….therefore i don’t see myself submitting to the regime.” the Lord Mayor said.

The host threw another hard one: ” So are we going to see another term of fighting? Lukwago answered, ” I don’t want to call it fighting….because that’s not among my plans…”

The radio host again launched another question, “Okay, what concessions are you ready to make for the good of Kampala?” Again this question was not answered.  This means Kampala will see the same stagnation.
