I hear Schadenfreude calling me Mr. One Eye-Gen. Elly Tumwine reveals

By Angela Nyakuni

Uganda’s Security minister Gen. Elly Tumwine has a reason to be bitter. A group of disgruntled supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) is calling him Mr. One Eye.  They are Schadenfreude.

” We are ready and prepared as a security team. I hear some of them calling me Mr. One Eye. Let them start their riots and they will see how Mr. One Eye and his security organs silence them one by one till the last ring leader,” Gen.  Tumwine asserts.

Gen. Tumwine continues, ” Do not say we did not warn you, it started from Luwero and it will end at the door of your house if you are not careful with your life.”

The Army General wonders how the group could contest against election results declared by a legitimate body (Electoral Commission). He says they have intelligence networks across the country. They have been hearing that NUP leaders are planning to protest the election results, which have been announced by Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama in favour of Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni before even is sworn in as the president in the next five years.

General Elly Tumwine (born 12 April 1954) is a Ugandan military officer, professional artist, and educator. He served as Commander of the National Resistance Army from 1984 to 1987. He is one of the highest-ranking members of the Ugandan military and is a member of the Ugandan Parliament, representing the Uganda People’s Defence Force.

Gen. Tumwine, the security minister, lost his eye during a deadly ambush in Bukomelo, Luwero district. President Museveni says in one of his books, “We were ambushed and Gen Tumwine (Elly) lost his eye.”

Well, this is a psychological problem/disease; laughing at someone else’s misfortune. It is known as schadenfreude, which comes from the two German words, Schaden and Freude, harm and joy. Even when you think you are joking, laughing at someone else’s expense, that other person may not take it as a joke.
