Four (4) football fans killed in Arua motor Accident

News streaming in from West Nile indicate that four people have died and several others were critically injured after a Fuso lorry with Registration number UAY 873L they were travelling in was involved in a grisly accident in Komite ward, Arua City on Sunday (March 21, 2021).

The truck was carrying players and fans of the newly formed Ayiova black stars Football Club from, Ajono parish, Vurra Subcounty in Arua district after a friendly football match with Oreku White Angels in Ayivu East, Arua City.

The dead have been identified as Patience Asara, a P7 candidate of Ayiova Primary School, Simon Econi, 22, Norbert Ariaka, 26, and Godfrey Ayikobua, 26.

Post mortem was conducted on the dead bodies at Arua regional referral hospital while six of the injured were receiving treatment at Arua regional referral hospital and other private health facilities.

The exact cause of the accident was not readily established by press time but eyewitnesses and survivors attribute it to overloading and the vehicle being in a dangerous mechanical condition.

Godfrey Econi, the vice-chairperson of the club says no player died and that all arrangements have been made to treat all the injured as well as to support the families of the deceased.

Joakim Enaonji, one of the players involved in the accident who survived without injuries says, the number of fans in the vehicle exceeded its capacity.

Thomas Anguyo, an uncle to the deceased school pupil says, it was still hard for the family to come to terms with the sudden demise of Patience Asara who was preparing for her final papers at the end of this month.
