Jeremiah Kamurali the Isingiro district boss arrested over UNHCR car
The Isingiro district LC V chairperson, Jeremiah Kamurali Birungi has been arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle belonging to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees-UNHCR.
Elim, the Isingiro District Police Commander confirmed the arrest of Kamurali, saying he is locked up at Isingiro Police headquarters.
The Isingiro district LC V chairperson, Jeremiah Kamurali has been arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle belonging to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees-UNHCR.
Kamurali is said to have grabbed the landcruiser vehicle from a washing bay in Isingiro town and drove it to his home in Kakooba division of Mbarara Municipality.
Richard Elim, the Isingiro District Police Commander confirmed the arrest of Kamurali, saying he is locked up at Isingiro Police headquarters.
He however, declined to divulge details of the case, saying the matter is under investigations.
Kamurali has denied any wrong doing, saying his arrest was instigated by the business community because of his strong opposition to their plans to exploit residents through double taxation on agricultural produce.
Well, Kamurali’s arrest is not a surprise. The district boss, for a long time, about 15 years; has been at loggerheads with various parties in the district that include business community as well as politicians.
A popular politician in the rural district, which borders with Tanzania along River Kagera, Kamurali is controversial and hard working.
Two years ago, Kamurali opposed a quarantine order from the Ministry of Agriculture, which had been going for some time and was arrested.
It is this stand off that has always caused the district boss troubles. Kamurali is reportedly not on good terms with Isingiro North MP Hon Bright Rwamirama. The two reportedly have political war they fight.
While Hon Rwamirama carry a poise of historical; on the other hand Kamurali bases himself on popularity vote and on the slogan vote “young blood”. However, this is more of egoistic battle that makes the two clash.
