Kale Kayihura has been freed on bail

Gen Kale Kayihura has arrived at the General Court Martial sitting in Makindye Military Barracks.

The former IGP, who faces three counts related to failure to protect war materials and failure to supervise his juniors, is seeking bail after more than 70 days in detention.

He was charged last week, nearly three months after he was arrested.

The army General has presented three sureties;  who include former Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) boss, Maj Gen James Mugira — now the Managing Director of National Enterprises Corporation, Maj Gen Samuel Kavuma, the deputy commander of Land Forces, and Entebbe Municipality MP Rose Mary Tumusiime Bikaako.

The news is that Gen. Kale Kayihura has since been freed on bail.

On his walk to temporary freedom, he unable to hide his joy, Kayihura’s face suddenly brimmed as his relatives and supporters erupted in ululation when the Court Martial Chairman Gen Andrew Gutti made the pronouncement.
