A Kanungu man took his ex fiance to court for refusing to marry him after sponsoring her education. According to prosecution, Tumwine Richard sued the Kyarikunda Fortunate for breach of promise to marry. Richard further seeks for several reliefs including general damages, special damages and costs of the suit.

The crux of the Richard’s case is that in 2015, the Richard was a teacher at Kiringa Primary School where the Kyarikunda came for teaching practice and the two started love relationship. They later entered a promise to marry in 2018. Richard financially supported the Kyarikunda including sponsoring her for a Diploma in Law at LDC where he spent Shs. 9,439,100/=.

On 10th January, 2022, the two persons arranged for an introduction ceremony and a budget was drawn with the function slated for February 2022 in Kanungu.

Kyarikunda later turned against the Richard saying she cannot marry an old man hence this suit.

This suit however teaches girls to be careful with men’s funds before consuming it. It’s alleged that women have  a habit of using the word “kukura” in taking men’s money hoping that no court where they will be charged to refund but it’s evident that when a man has proof that he gave you his money your liable to court charges and punishment.
