One person drowns in Lake Bunyonyi

One person named as Orikiriza Believe has drown and died in Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale district.

Beleive Orikiriza who drown in L. Bunyonyi was a resident of Kagasha Village, Butenga Kabale district.

According to the eye witness,orikiriza met his death yesterday when the canoe he was using capsized at Bufuka landing site where the strong waves drowned him.

Kigezi regional police Spokesperson Elly Maate says that the body was retrieved by marine police and has been handed over to the family for burial.

Investigation into a case of death by drowning has been initiated at Kabale Central Police Station under reference number SD 07/06/01/2023.

The deceased was not putting on a life Jacket which the police spokes person said must have instigated to his drowning because live jackets are life savers in circumstances like that one.

Maate urged on locals to desist from traveling on water without life jackets. person has died after drowning in Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale district.

Eli Maate called upon residents not to always go in the lakes during the heavy wind which can blow a way their boots. He said it’s the responsibility of every human to protect his life by all means.

The kigezi regional police Spokesperson Elly Maate says that the body was retrieved by marine police and has been handed over to the family for burial, he assured them that investigations are on going.

The devastated family said their son was still a youth and promising, it’s unfortunate and an avoidable circumstances to keep losing such strong human beings due to the Lake which should be a blessing to them but instead it turned out to be a curse to the residents.

The residents were concerned about the continuous death of residents at L. Bunyonyi that every end of year one person or many dies.

Lake Bunyonyi is located in Kabale district and is one of tourists   destination centres.
