The Ministry of Education and Sports is hunting for immediate changes in the Education system.

The ministry has introduced a think tank that will help in educational research and policy making to tackle immediate challenges of globalization.

The think tank is a brainchild of the Centre for Advanced Strategic Leadership Limited (CASTLE), which has organised a two day conference at Mestil Hotel in Nsambya on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 and Thursday, October 31, 2019, beginning at 8:30am.

CASTLE and the Institute for National Transformation (INT) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports are the hosts of the conference, whose theme is, “Education and African Futures.”

According to the statement by the CASTLE Chairman, Dr. James Magara, the conference will convene stakeholders in the education ecosystem to explore forecasts for Education on the continent and possible pathways for strengthening the systematic management of Education, and provision of effective and inclusive teaching and learning to produce future-learners.

The statement furthers reveals that about five hundred (500) stakeholders drawn from government, research, academia, development and funding organizations, corporations, civil society organizations and a broad range of Education innovators are expected to attend.

Prof. Joseph Oonyu said the theme of the conference was carefully chosen to enable delegates to deliberate on the future of Education on the continent with view to finding alternative pathways for leapfrogging African education to effectively respond to the future demands of all sectors for the prosperity of the continent.

Oonyu added that this conference partly responds to the 2016-25 Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA) which seeks, to educate a new African citizen who will be an effective change agent for continent’s sustainable development as envisioned by the African Union and it’s 2063 Agenda.

It is also in line with Uganda’s Vision 2040, which seeks to transform the Ugandan society into modern and prosperous country in thirty years as espoused in the second National Development Programme (NDO II) 2015/26-2019/20.

Mr. Alex Kakooza, the permanent secretary Ministry of Education and Sports, on behalf of the ministry, welcomed the initiative in the advancement of education in the country.

Kakooza said that in the second half of the last century, globalization led to unprecedented changes in society. The velocity and volume of change has generated unprecedented opportunities and challenges for educational systems worldwide. That nowhere has this rapid change been felt more than on the African continent.

He anticipates this think tank will address the consequences of globalization, rising levels of youth unemployment and inequality, the explosive growth of online communications and education, the globalization of education, the virtualization of business models, and, the fourth industrial revolution
will place enormous pressure on educational institutions, students, teachers and researchers.
