Uganda’s music promoters will meet Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) officials on 26th-January-2023 to discuss taxes that the government wants to levy on them.

The meeting will take place at Calender Guest House in Makindye Division.

According to the President of National Promoters Association, Abbey Musinguzi alias Abitex, the meeting will be attended by the leading music events promoters in the country and all those who want to know more about this development.

“I have invited all our members in the different parts of the country to come and meet URA offices. We would like to use this meeting to reach a consensus on how this will be handle but our prayer is to see that these taxes be dropped,” he said in a series of interviews with the different local entertainment journalists.

Recently, Abitex said he is now going to promote Nigerian and Tanzania artistes because local musicians have lost value as one needs 30 musicians to do a concert in the past where the late Prince Paul job Kafeero and Fred Sebata would do one show single handedly and make lots of promoters for the local promoters

“ Even the promoter who organized Spice Diana’s show told me that he made a loss of shs.75,000,000 despite the huge numbers that you saw at her concert,” he said while appearing on Nbs amasengejje extra program on NBS on 25-January-2023.

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) recently listed taxes that performing artistes and promoters are supposed to pay

The taxes include withholding tax of 6% per booking of the performer,18% Value added tax(VAT) on each ticket sold at the entrance of the entertainment venue and the annual income tax that business pay after filing their annual returns.

They further said that the withholding tax should be withheld within 15 days after the end of the month in which the payment subject to withholding tax was made.

Another tax, they talked about in the communication to artistes and promoters was Value Added tax (VAT) of 18 % per ticket sold at an event.

The tax body also directed to make sure that only promoters and artistes with Tax identification numbers (TIN) be allowed to organize concerts.
