Winnie Byanyima has goes to court to stand surety for her nephew, but a one Otto started to throw tantrums and he is getting all tribal. As a learned fellow, he should know that there’s nothing illegal that Byanyima has done as a citizen of Uganda.

The Executive Director of Oxfam International, Winnie Byanyima and her sisters Edith and Martha Byanyima are some of the people who have come to stand for Matthew and Joseph Kanyamunyus  as sureties.

The Kanyamunyu brothers and one Cynthia Munwangari are accused of murdering social worker Kenneth Akena near UMA showground near Lugogo along  Jinja highway in Kampala last year.

Through Bashasha and company advocates, the accused persons want to be released on bail on grounds that they are responsible members of society, law abiding and will not abscond if released because they have fixed places of residence in Kampala plus substantial sureties  who will ensure that they honour their  bail conditions.

Relatives of the deceased  say they are disappointed with Winnie Byanyima’s decision to stand as surety for a person accused of murder. The clearly angered relatives said Byanyima should have kept away from the case despite being related to the main suspect Matthew Kanyamunyu.

Any person would personally stand surety for their kinsmen however polarizing a crime (s)he is accused of having committed; that’s the innate selfishness that you all harbor as human beings.

Also the clearly angered relatives said Byanyima should have kept away from the case despite being related to the main suspect Matthew Kanyamunyu.

“Yes, a poor soul was lost through a reckless act, but similarly, we live in a country were constitutional rights, however selectively they’re applied, must be rendered to anyone who applies for them! So Otto better start behaving like a grown-up, for being an Acholi doesn’t come with inalienable rights to acting like an imbecile and dishing out silly threats,” comments Alex Musoga.
