Bobi Wine or Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s Birthday?

By Angela Nyakuni

Today supporters of Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine have shown him love; just a day to Valentines’ lovers day. Yeah! He was born, but on what day and which year, exactly? They may be celebrating a wrong date or year. This is common with the “slay queens.”

The “slay queens” aim at greatly impressing or amusing; they do not think about public opinion. When I had joined journalism, celebrities like Karitas and Desire Luzinda would celebrate birthdays publicly; of course, cutting the age to the minimum. I remember Karitas aka Nalongo’s last birthday she was at 23 years of age and that was 2003. Today, she cannot celebrate because she was informed by then society writers that it was documented.

Virtually, if we go by Karitas’s last birthday in 2003; she is now 40 years old. However; she had cut the age by 5 years; she is now about 45 years old.

Back to Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu; he claims he is 39 years. That means he started singing when he was 18 years old, true or false? However, the truth is; Hon Kyagulanyi started singing when he was about 22 years, but his breakthrough occurred when he was 25 years of age.

The above facts can be supported by his academic documents, he presented at Makerere University’s Music, Dance & Drama (MDD).  Besides, celebrities are entitled by the nature of their showbiz; to twist their birthdays to suit occasions.

Today, supporters need to know that they are celebrating Bobi Wine’s birthday, but not Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s day. The Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu who went to Makerere University’s MDD, is two (2) years ahead of Bobi Wine.

Rd. Col Kiiza Besigye has also wished Bobi Wine a happy birthday. He wrote: “Everyday that anyone confronting the criminal NRM/M7 junta ends deserves a celebration. Hon Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, has quite likely ended one of the most challenging years of his life. It is also a year that he’s been quite impactful on Uganda’s politics. It is therefore fitting to join Hon Kyagulanyi in celebrating his birthday today.”
