Cornwell Muleya is arrested

Former Uganda Airlines CEO Cornwell Muleya has reportedly been arrested.
The sacked Chief Executive Officer is in the hands of the Inspectorate of Government, which is assisted by police, the IGG’s office has confirmed the arrest.

Muleya’s arrest, The Drone Media has learnt, stemmed from his disobedience. Muleya reportedly disobeyed IGG’s orders.

Mmuleya was among the officials involved in the revival of the Uganda Airlines. The team was suspended on the orders of President Museveni to pave way for investigations into allegations of financial mismanagement, collusion, and nepotism in staff recruitment etc

However, Muleya had sued for wrongful dismissal and demanded sh3.3bn. The case was referred to the Industrial Court for disposal because no Uganda Airlines or government official appeared at the scheduled mediation meetings.

In March this year (2022) a letter was written to Ministry of Works seeking compensation up to a tune of sh3.3bn being payment of salary arrears, gratuity, untaken leave, reimbursement for fuel, telephone and toll free expenses, repatriation allowances and damages.

Muleya also demanded for immediate reinstatement into his job and unconditional apology for the material inconvenience, reputational damage and loss suffered.

Now, looking at the above demands, knowing circumstances in this country, Muleya could be in much more trouble. This could be termed as persecution not Prosecution.

Cornwell Muleya is a Zambian chemical engineer, accountant and aviation consultant, who served as the Acting Chief Executive Officer at Uganda National Airlines Company the revived national airline of Uganda, effective October 2019.

The Works and Transport Minister, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala suspended Muleya and 12 other top officials on April 21, 2021, on the orders of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to pave way for investigations into allegations of financial mismanagement, collusion, and nepotism in staff recruitment among other issues.

Cornwell Muleya gave the government a condition to reinstate him or pay him over sh3.5 billion in terminal benefits.  This could be the cause of his troubles.
