COVID-19 HAS KILLED PORK JOINTS IN KAMPALA

It is obvious that COVID19 has killed and buried pork joints in Kampala.  Pork Joints which were always busy with a flurry of activities, they are no longer active.

As you could remember before COVID-19 pandemic devastated the world, here in Kampala, Uganda; revelers who descended on platters of meat, which they would mercilessly devour like locusts, were uncountable.

Today, two years in the journey with the pandemic, revelers as well as pork joints’ owners in Nakulabye, Kampala, are in tears. The joints have been persistently locked out of business by President Yoweri Museveni on the advice of Ministry of Health, which bases on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This kind of situation has changed Nakulabye Pork Joint commonly known as Nicodemus Pork Joint.

Revelers these days eat their pork while hiding; they eat while indoors. This is because meat is always washed down the throat with bitter drinks, either Uganda Waragi or beer, yet bars where beers are sold are not allowed to open.

It has led Nakulabye to become a sleeping town today. In fact, most bars have been changed into shops whiles others have been demolished to construct residential rooms. This is what is considered dead and burried.

In fact, there is a new trend, pig eaters have migrated to some other things. They are now opting for something that will help them kill boredom, but also devour something. This is non other than mukenne; the small or tiny fish. These tiny fish are fried and chewed like grasshoppers, and they are accidentally replacing pork!

You may not agree, but fried mukenne has replaced pork. It may be despised in public, but individuals excuse themselves from friends and busy themselves chewing the fried mukenne. This new trend has not helped in awakening Nakulabye the Suzana Club home village.
