Mourning the death of Shisha littered Casablanca on Acaccia Road

By Jay Sewa  Amooti
Casablanca’s permanent closure has sparked overwhelming surprise and sadness for the much-loved Kololo pub.
Nestled on Acacia Avenue, the establishment became a firm favourite among Enjera and shisha lovers when it launched about 20 years ago but it hasn’t survived the Covid pandemic, not reopening since the last lockdown.
Fond tributes ranged from “end of an era” to shock that such an “awesome place” could be closing with many saying they had enjoyed some of “their best nights” at the bar.
I remember Dangote Bazalame commenting.. “Loved the place but word of mouth isn’t enough.”
Slim daddy added: “I’ve drank at that bar since the late ’20s, such a shame to see our sitting room close.
While working at Scanad, I would just take a walk to Casablanca to pour my stress from demanding clients. It was a stress reliever for me.
Sorrow has truly been felt by dozens. Every good thing comes to end. It’s time to say our goodbyes. You take one last look at the empty restaurant and reflect on all the good memories and glorious times you had there. No other bar will ever be as good as Casablanca or make us as happy.
