Police on spot over illegal COVID-19 food

By Angela Nyakuni

The OC Lugala Police Station a one Afande Kyobe has confiscated a journalist’s camera and ID over illegal distribution of relief food.

A group of rough men headed by a one Mutyaba under the supervision of the OC Lugala Police Station were distributing posho, beans and soap at Kosovo Community Church when The Drone Media journalist, Pidson Kareire arrived there.

The journalist, as usual, took photographs of the relief food, but as he proceeded to capture the food that was being set aside in a separate room, Mutyaba stopped him. He asked him to identify himself, which the journalist did.

Contrary to the Presidential Guidelines, the group did not keep social distance. Besides, this was not the official task force. This was the reason they did not want journalists around.

The Relief Food that was delivered to Kosovo

As if that was not bad enough, the group gathered only relatives and friends, who they gave food in the name of orphans.  The Drone Media has gathered that a ‘sponsor” who they could not name, delivered two lorries of food relief, but only one lorry was brought to Kosovo.

As the journalist was doing his work, photographing the relief; Mutyaba pounced and ordered him to delete the images. Fortunately, Afande Kyobe was around, but was part of the deal. The OC asked for the camera and ID, which he confiscated, asking for images to be deleted.

People gathered without social distancing

Kyobe told The Drone Media that the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Rubaga Division, Daniel Kabunga had called him, begging him to allow the group to distribute the food.

He claimed some sponsors donated the relief to orphans, but one lorry was taken to the Task Force.  He, however, declined to to name sponsors.  Yet relief was declared to vulnerable poor. If the food was in the right procedure, why did they stop journalists?  COVID-19 has revealed greedy leaders.

After distributing to the relatives and friends, officials divided it among themselves. Their car boots were full to the top.
