Sam Kutesa quits elective politics flaunts Shatsi

Sam Kutesa has reportedly quit elective politics and is flaunting Shatsi. News reaching our information desk states that Hon Sam Kutesa has quit elective politics and seconds his daughter to take over as MP Mawogola North come 2021 elections in Sembabule District.

As Uganda is celebrating President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni 75th birthday, Hon Sam Kutesa based in the constituency he presents while addressing the people, he said he has served for long.

Sam Kutesa has worked in government for 40yrs now. He is the Minister for foreign affairs since 2005,following the death of James Wapakhabulo. Between 1985 to 1986, Kutesa served as the Attorney General. He introduced to the residents his daughter Shatsi Kutesa as the next MP and requested residents to support her come 2021. From 2001 to 2005, he served as the minister of state for Finance, Planning and Economic development.

He served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Mbarara North Constituency from 1980 to 1985. Between 1994 and 1995, he served as a delegate to the Constituent Assembly that drafted the 1995 Ugandan Constitution. He was first elected MP for Mawogola County in 2001 and then re-elected in three consecutive general elections.

Sam Kutesa was born 1st February 1949. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree, obtained from Makerere University, back when the institution was part of the University of East Africa. He also holds a Diploma in Legal Practice, obtained from the Law Development Centre in Kampala. Kutesa is the 12th person from Africa to serve as presdient UN general assembly, since 1964.

In 2018, a Federal jury in New York City convicted Chi Ping Patrick Ho, the head of a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Hong Kong and Virginia on seven counts for his participation in a multimillion-dollar scheme to bribe top officials of Chad and Uganda in exchange for business advantage for a Chinese oil and gas company.

It is alleged that Kutesa, while still President of UN General Assembly was among the beneficiaries of the bribe. Kutesa allegedly received USD500,000 (approximately Shs1.8 billion) which was paid via wires transmitted through New York to an account designated by the Minister.

The last person from Africa was Ali Treki from Libya, who occupied the position in 2009. A seasoned lawyer and legislator, Kutesa is a family man.

His daughter is married to President Yoweri Museveni’s son, Brigadier Muhoozi Kainerugaba. He is married to Edith Gasana and the couple has four kids.
