Three NBS Journalists remanded without proper file processing

By Angela Nyakuni
Three entertainment journalists Kawalya Isaac alias Kaiyz, Wakko Brian Kennedy and Makuluri William were last evening remanded to Kitalya Mini-Max Prison, all attached to the Next Media Group , on charges of offensive communication and criminal libel.
The trio had gone to report themselves to the Police yesterday 1st, October, 2021 in the afternoon hours as earlier instructed, however they were instead arrested and arraigned before the Buganda Road Court later in the day from where they had been remanded to Kitalya Prison until the 15th, October, 2021 without considering their bail application.
While it is every person’s right to seek legal redress, it should not be used to gag the freedom of speech and expression by the media actors.
“We are concerned that such acts pose a serious impact to the enjoyment of the press freedoms that are spelt out in the Constitution. We therefore stand with our colleagues and engaging all the relevant authorities to see how they receive justice and regain their freedom,” Kabuye Ronald said.
Sources say that Omulangila Suuna injected money into their case so that they go for coolers first. The security organ without proper file processing arrested and arraigned them before court and they were later remanded to Kitalya Mini-Max Prison until the 15th, October, 2021 ignoring their bail right.
The journalists might have error somewhere in their line of duty prompting Musician Ssuuna to seek legal redress, but this can be handled and settled amicably for both the accuser and the accused need each other more than this rift.
