Buddo Inferno back in news

Last week the New Vision reported that operatives of ISO had arrested a city businessman in connection to the fire that killed innocent children in April of 2008. The Buddo Inferno.

While the paper did not disclose the names of the arrested businessman, it was later discovered that the person in question was Simpson Birungi the owner of Movit. His reported arrest arises from findings which indicated that he had a fierce dispute with Buddo Junior School administrators over land.

On April 14, 2008, 19 pupils of Buddo Junior School were killed in a fire that ravaged their dormitories at night.

The fire, whose cause is still unknown, started at about 9 p.m. in Nasolo Ward, a dormitory that houses Primary Four girls.

There was no electricity at the school at the time and it is believed the fire may have been sparked off by a candle or someone set it off from the outside. Until today government has never come up with a conclusive report about the cause of this fire. One may be left wondering; why now after 10yrs?

Mr Simpson Birungi is not new in the controversies related to murder.

Last year, a man who called himself Kanyankole Asiimwe went to the NewVision offices claiming that there is a Kampala Business man who hired him to kill a manager in one Kampala companies at a fee of Sh50m which he did. He was arrested but the businessman begged him not to implicate the businessman on condition that he will pay another sh200m plus building a house for him. (Additional story to that can be heard in the video here)

Our investigation later discovered that the businessman in question was none other than Simpson Birungi of Movit. It is alleged that Between January 1st and May 20th 2010, Simpson Birungi the proprietor of Movit Company a cosmetic manufacturing company hired a criminal gang headed by Robert Sempebwa aka Kazahura to kill his manager Steven Ashaba at the cost of 50 million Uganda shillings.

After receiving the 50 million shillings, Robert. Sempebwa befriended his victim Steven Ashaba, and became very close friends to the extent that Ashaba’s wife got to know about their friendship and even saved Roberts number in her own phone.

On the 21st of May 2010 Ashaba Steven left home for work, after his work routine he met with his friend Robert Sempebwa aka Kazahura who had already setup the chief executioner Asiimwe Ronald AKA Kanyankole, the two murdered Steven Ashaba, then cut off his private parts and took his car.

On the 22nd May a worried wife Rose called up Robert Sempebwa wondering if he had seen the husband, Sempebwa pretended to be touched and even offered to search for the husband. The wife, in an interview with the New vision shortly after the disappearance of her husband said her husband had never slept out. His rotting body was later found at Kasanja – Nakawuka.

Police Investigations started focusing at the murder as a robbery gone bad or human sacrifice, but telephone printout of Ashaba indicated he last spoke to Robert Sempebwa and his last call tower was last seen with Robert, surprising Robert’s printouts also indicated the wife Rose had called the following day, the magic calls were those of the boss Grace Simpson Birungi aka Movit, the suspects were arrested and interrogated at SUI Kireka, the chief interrogator then was Nickson Asigirwe now in custody over the death of many Rwanda political refugees and most recent finding indicate he could be connected to the murder of AIGP Andrew Kaweesi.

During interrogation Nickson got information from Robert Sempebwa and Asiimwe Ronald aka Kanyankole that they were hired to kill by a rich man called Simpson Grace Birungi aka Movit. A greedy Nickson quickly knew this was a deal for extortion, he immediately picked up Simpson Birungi and locked him up in the same cell with his accomplices.
Meanwhile Nickson called up his boss General Kayihura and briefed him of the developments, the General gave a green light, Simpson negotiated to pay his boys to keep quiet and serve less time in prison in turn he pays them 200m, Nickson was himself paid 200 million which he picked himself from the bank with Simpson Birungi the following morning. Simpson Birungi was released without a charge on Police bond.
During interrogation the motive of this murder was revealed;
a) Simpson Birungi wanted his manager killed because he had information that the manager was sharing sensitive company chemical formulars with his competitors for money.
b) Simpson had received credible information that Ashaba was was having an affair with his (Simpson’s) wife.

None of the above had evident attached to it, the interogators were interested in money. They didnt bother to find out if indeed deceaded had an affair with Simpson’s wife and was sharing chemical formulars as it was alleged.

The two suspects were sent to Luzira for Murder charges on a promise that their file would not be complete, therefore the case would be dismissed by Court, unfortunately dismissing the case took longer than expected.

On reaching Luzira prison without saying a word the two suspects Robert Sempebwa and Assimwe Ronald received their pay as promised, the only problem is that this pay was given to Robert Sempebwa‘ Agents on the outside, these agents then did what they were instructed by Robert hence not sharing the money with Ronald Asiimwe.

In 2015 Ronald Assimwe was released by Court, he made effort to collect his payment from Simpson Birungi but nothing was coming out, instead there was a plan by Nickson to finish him off.
Ronald Asiimwe then ran to Bukedde vision group and confessed his crimes in Two recordings, the Bukedde team then contacted the police spokesperson Late Kaweesi for comment, Kaweesi said they would investigate and protect Asiimwe. (Find the attached evidence of this confession)
It is alleged Birungi then paid off Bukedde not to release the second part that had his names, Birungi also dealt with Kaweesi to set the case aside.
Asiimwe Ronald was never re-arrested by Uganda Police despite coming out in public to confess killing for Birungi Grace Simpson aka Movit as per attached video.

What the interogators failed to verify was the actual reason why Simpson wanted his manager dead, probably if they had found out, they would have extorted more money from him than what they got. It should be remembered that the killing of Steven Ashaba was in 2010 while the inforno of Buddo which killed children was in 2008. There is a possibility that all what Simpson Birungi told the investigators as the motive of killing Steven Ashaba were false. The deceased could have known or participated in the burning of Budo school dormitory and when he fell out with his boss Simpson Birungi the only way he could be silenced was killing him.

The reasons Simpson Birungi gave during interrogation were not strong enough to call for such consequences. There is also another possibility that the investigators got to the bottom line of the Buddo inferno but instead opted to extortion from the would be suspect.

This conclusion answers the question you may have asked in the beginning of the story ; Why now? The answer is because the person, (IGP) who has been shielding all these atrocities has been replaced. Someone will go to hell because of Buddo inferno.
