Former Sheema MP remanded over murder

Jacklet Atuhaire Rwabukurukuru, the former Sheema District Woman MP who currently serves as a commissioner of the Uganda Human Rights Commission has been remanded over attempted murder of a close friend.
Atuhaire and her bodyguard appeared before Kajjansi Chief Magistrates Court and she was charged with attempted murder and remanded to Kigo Prison.
Her bodyguard, Emmanuel Tumusiime, an officer of the UPDF, Uganda’s national army, was also charged alongside the ex-MP who lost the 2021 parliamentary election and was consoled with a commissioner job.
Trouble for Atuhaire and Tumusiime began last week when it emerged that the latter had reportedly shot at and inflicted severe injuries on Andrew Oledo a military spy, who is said to be a close friend to the former legislator. The shooting incident is said to have taken place at Atuhaire’s residence inside their bedroom.
Sources say Oledo is currently fighting for his life in hospital and if he dies, Atuhaire will face full murder charges.
