Journalist Pidson sues government over torture

Pidson Kareire has sued the government of Uganda over torture. According to the document seen by The Drone Media that was signed by Deputy Registrar under his/her hand and the seal of the court this 19th day of December 2022, the respondent who is the Attorney General is notified of the hearing date.

The hearing of this case has been fixed and will be heard in the High Court of Uganda at Kampala in January, 2023.

“If no appearance is made on your behalf, by yourself/our pleader or someone authorized by law to act for you, the case will be heard in your absense,” the Hearing Notice reads.

It should be remembered that the journalist, Pidson Kareire was, in November 2021, kidnapped and held incognitto for a week; tortured and later arraigned at Buganda Road case with tramped up charges. This whole project was sponsored by Speaker of Parliament of Uganda, Rt Hon Anita Annet Among, who was Deputy Speaker at the time.

Among reportedly hired security operatives to torture Pidson Kareire alleging that the journalist had asked for sh100m so that he could not write about her.

State minister for Lands, Persis Namuganza recently accused Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among of paying security operatives to abduct innocent Ugandans. This case is a live example. Anita Among’s former Chief Bodyguard Aggrey Aruho was the one involved in the kidnap of the Pidson Kareire and others, yet his work was to guard the Deputy Speaker not to kidnap or arrest.

Pidson Kareire is suing the government seeking compensation over torture that was inflicted on him while in the custody prior to his arraignment in court over tramped up charges.  Surprisingly, the Speaker of Parliament should be fighting this vice of torturing Ugandans, but she is culprit number one! So, who will help the tortured innocent Ugandans?
