Kyambogo University graduands in quandary

Information coming in to The Drone Media news desk indicate that there is in-fighting at Kyambogo University, which has supposedly antagonized the students’ graduation. Several students will miss this year’s graduation due to the loggerheads among the administrators.

Students quote impunity as a sole cause of this confusion. There is impunity masterminded by the Faculty of Business Administration & Entrepreneurship. Bad enough, the School management and the office of the Dean of the School of Post Graduate are key masters of this.

A concerned student who did not want his name to be mentioned says that before this confusion, in the past, examination results – especially Research and Viva would end at the departments and the responsible department would only send results.

However, this has changed to the detriment of students. The new changes demand that research goes to the School of Post Graduate, which will thereafter make a programme for viva( defense of the research) but without involving the heads of departments.

This has become a problem of conflicting interests; they favour individual departments, especially their mother departments. For example the School of Post Graduate sets a programme for defence (Viva) without involving students; no communication between concerned students and the school, not even their lecturers! In the end students miss viva because they are not informed. They are trapped in this confusion of the administration.

SUBMISSION OF CORRECTED DISSERTATION AFTER VIVA VOCE (1)

Recently, the School of Post Graduate made changes without involving students, lecturers or heads of departments and the Deans. This has affected many students who will not graduate on 7th December, 2022.

For example, someone is expecting to graduate, but is not on the list due to the improper changes.
As you read this, the programme for graduation is out, but students have not defended their their research, this seems to be fraud or foggery. Affected departments include: Accounting and Finance; Management Science and Procurement and Marketing.

Students of Management Science conflonted their dean and he did not have answer. He said there was a problem. There is no communication between the Dean’s Office and the School of Post Graduate and the Vice Chanellor has become a businessman, he does not attend to university’s issues.

When The Drone Media called the Director of the Post Graduate School Prof. Obua he never picked his phone calls.

However, The Drone Media accessed the directive for changes which are attached here. The changes that have added confusion at the university. The changes came when the students had already submitted or ready to submit as per the old arrangements.

Even now as you read this, the university lecturers are equally locked up in this confusion no one is sure of what next!

External research suppervisors have since abandoned their own responsibilities, they have reportedly taken months without sending in the students results as a cold strike at the university is ongoing.

Note: The graduation programme is out, but students are still sitting exams. They have not defended their research. What a confusion! Efforts to talk to Dr. Peter Obanda, the head of the School of Post Graduate, were futile as his phone was kept busy and whenever it went through he could not pick it.
