The  Local Council (LC I) chairman of Radio Uganda village in Kampala Central is using the lockdown season to take National Theatre land, The Drone Media has learnt.

“When asked he says it is Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) which is taking the land for the youth of Kampala office,”  reports Jack Kinobe Sserunkuuma, a member of the artists groups.

However, the management of Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) says they are not aware of the extension. All they know they allowed the Local Council to construct a semi permanent office.

This particular land is in the crafts market managed by National Arts and Cultural Crafts Association of Uganda (NACCAU). Surprisingly, the management of NACCAU, know nothing.

“If it is true KCCA is taking land gazetted for the Arts and Culture then they should be sure that we shall use all legal methods to fight back. We are waiting for lockdown and the game shall be on. Otherwise I just can’t understand how someone can come and put a structure on your land and you do not make noise. We don’t know who is fooling who! LC I we are coming!!!”  Sserunkuuma warns.

Tuesday night Robert Musitwa assured concerned members that all was well since the management had stopped any kind of building work. Annoyingly, in the afternoon of the following day the builders were very busy…. What does that mean?

Robert Musitwa says, this has been brought to our attention and the good news is that the construction was stopped by UNCC management. Any construction whether permanent or semi-structure must follow guidelines and procedures including close supervision as outlined by MOW which isn’t the case due to the current lockdown.

Musitwa assured members that the security of UNCC was put on standby in case there was a breach of instructions as given to the LC I Radio Uganda Village leadership by UNCC management. He assured the public that the situation was in control.
