Mutesa 1 Royal University gets charter status

Buganda Royal University (MRU) has been granted a charter status by the national council for higher education, Uganda.

According to a letter signed by the executive director of the council professor Mary J.N Okwakol (PHD), the university was granted this status after fulfilling the requirements needed.

These are the details of the letter by Okwakol that proves that the University got the charter status

Reference is made to the application by Muteesa 1 royal university to the national council for higher education for grant of a charter

This is to inform you that council at its 68th meeting held on the 20th January, 2023 considered and resolved to recommend to the minister, the grant of a charter to the university in accordance with section 101(3) b of the universities and other tertiary institutions act 2001 as amended

As you be aware, the law provides for requisite procedures governing grant of a charter which involves the submission of the charter to the minister responsible for education who then presents it to the president for final approval, before gazzetment of the same

The general purpose of this letter therefore is to inform you of the council decision regarding the grant of a charter to the University and to require you to pay the statutory license of ug.shs 15,000,000 only to the national council for higher education through the Uganda Revenue Authority website in accordance with section 3(2) of the regulation
