By Correspondent

President Yoweri Kaguta Tubuhaburwa Museveni’s un fulfilled promises have hit sh75trillion. This was revealed by Members of Parliament sitting on The Government Assurances and Implementation Committee.

“We wish to  notify Ugandans that after a careful study of our mandate and notifications, have found out that many Ugandans are disappointed over the unfulfilled promises by politicians,” reads part of MPs’ statement.

“…. as they win over support depending on what we promise prior to taking office…. pledge and promise to do a number of things and it’s upon those assurances that they get supported and or elected to those Offices,” MPs stated.

Unfortunately, politicians have as a tradition failed, refused, ignored or neglected to fulfil these pledges…while at the same time, continuing to make more pledges. The last assessment of President Museveni alone shows that his unfulfilled pledges amount to 75 trillion- shillings as by July 1st of 2019.

The pledges as made by the Executive form the backbone of service delivery to the masses and development of systems, policies and laws that guide the implementation

“….I hope you all agree with me that if there could be a miracle for Mr. Museveni’s existing Assurances, Uganda and Ugandans would right away be transformed for the better,” one of the committee members explained.

“Having noted that our mandate is so wide and we are not fully equipped to study and follow-up on each and every sector to trace for Assurances made for a period of thirty five years. Some of these pledges were made before many Ugandans were born but remain un cleared to date ! ” MPs said.

The MPs said that having considered the above and having realized that even before the committee they have a backlog with thousands of petitions, they decided to set their priority areas. The areas where they shall focus most of their legislative and oversight functions are;
1.Heath
2.Education
3.Security
4. Kampala and other Urban Areas
5.Roads and works
6.Local Governance
7. Equipping and tooling the youth ( skills development)

“We don’t know for how long we shall be in this office and on this committee but we want to set up standards, clear and firm foundation…..to define and entrench effective and efficient methods of work….as some people might have noticed. We don’t have much to inherits from our predecessors…..we however wish to promise that, we are deliberately working in such a way that after our term, we get to hand over a vibrant and agenda setting committee. The force driving us is that no person should ever petition the GAIC in vain,” a statement by the committee read.
