Rukungiri high court launched

Six high courts were recently created qmong the six there is Rukungiri High Court. Today, it was launched and Judicial officers were warned against corruption.

The Principal Judge Dr. Flavian Zeija asked the judicial officers to perform their duties with integrity and shun corruption tendencies.

Dr. Zeija made the call yesterday 6th February 2023 during the official launch of Rukungiri High Court Circuit in a function that was held at Rukungiri Magistrates Court premises in Rukungiri municipality.

Speaking during the function, the Principle Judge revealed that judicial officers taking bribes and engaging in other forms of corruption shall not only tarnish their name but affect their career.
He warned magistrates across the country to avoid unnecessary delays to deliver their rulings saying it has become a breeding ground for corruption in the judiciary.

Dr. Zeija however asked them to give an explanation to litigants in case of delayed judgments to avoid causing anxiety amongst the public.
He narrated that the judiciary will not tolerate vices like late coming, absenteeism and laziness explaining that the indiscipline by some judicial officers has tainted the image of the judiciary yet they are expected to be role models to the public.

Principal Judge Dr.Flavian Zeija however urged residents of Rukungiri and Kanungu districts to utilize the launched high court since it will reduce the burden of costs to get services from Kabale.
He hailed plea bargaining for decreasing case backlog especially incase when advised to use RDC’s office.

In his remarks, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen thanked the Judiciary for the effort rendered towards bringing justice nearer to the people of Rukungiri and Kanungu districts.

Among those who attended the function include Rukungiri High Court Resident Judge, Deputy RDCs Rukungiri and Kanungu districts, Wilberforce Ongom and Ahimbisibwe Gad Rugaju respectively, chairman LC5 Rukungiri Geofrey Kyomukama, Mayor Rukungiri Municipality Charles Makuru, Chief Magistrate Rukungiri Her Worship Mbabazi Edith and CAO Kanungu district.

Others include DPC Rukungiri SP. Musa Tibakirana, OC prisons Rukungiri, Deputy town clerk Rukungiri municipality Mr.Tagobya Prosper among others.

Rukungiri High Court Circuit is among the six high courts that were recently launched bringing the total number in the country to 20.
