Shocking billions MPs used in their elections!

By Jeremiah Kaniampiha

Campaign funds may be used to pay the costs of travel to an activity that is related to the campaign or to the candidate’s duties as one campaigns, but the figures discovered by The Drone Media, are shockingly too big!

To quote the great political philosopher Cyndi Lauper, “Money changes everything.”  And nowhere is that proverb more taken to heart than in Uganda’s elections, where billions of shillings are raised and spent on the understanding that money is a crucial determinant of whether or not a candidate will win.

Now, The Drone Media has learnt from close associates that Ex-MP Jay Tanna used about sh4 billions in NRM primaries locally known as Kamyufu, but lost to Mike Mukula.

Hon Arinaitwe Katambuka Rwakajara reportedly spent sh800 millions, but fortunately he regained his seat; he will represent workers as a National Representative.

From a close associate, Oliver Katwesigye Koyekyenga, currently serving as the elected woman representative for Buhweju district in Uganda’s tenth parliament, reportedly spent sh900 millions in elections and she won. Unfortunately, her opponent who used more money about sh1.4 billions, lost.

Ayebazibwe Jastine, the Isingiro Woman MP reportedly used about sh1.2 billions, but lost to Claire, who is fondly referred to by voters as Owa’maizi marungi (the one with clean water).

The crown for the most thrift spender will go to former Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) official, whose wealth reportedly shocked even the president. This is non other than Dickson Kateshumbwa, who won the Sheema Municipality seat. He reportedly spent about sh6 billions. Kateshumbwa even bought knickers for village belles.

Sources pin Kateshumbwa for allegedly pocketing over sh400 million weekly and it is with this amount that he used to buy plots and miles of land in different parts of the country, built mansions and hotels just in a short period of time serving in the tax agency.
