Stop being corrupt, brutalizing Ugandans- President Museveni tells police

By Correspondent

It is a month ago since President Yoweri Museveni warned police against their corrupt tendencies and brutalizing Ugandans.  However, this warning seems to have fallen into deaf ears. Police, under the guise of investigations; still harrass Ugandans.

The managing Editor of this publication is a victim. He was summoned to CID Headquarters to record a statement about the story he wrote about Dott Services Limited, which was questioned by a section of MPs in Physical Infrastructure Committee, but his smart phone is being held and the editor is tossed up and down, yet there is no legal stand on the charges preferred by police officers.

The truth is that police is always compromised. If you take example of this case,  where Dott Services Limited complains that it was defamed, yet the story came from the proceedings of parliament, how can this one be defamatory? If anything, police is not court to determine and penalize a suspect.

Well, police has in the recent past been on the spotlight for being the most corrupt government institution. Additionally, there have been widespread condemnation against police brutality, especially during arrest of suspects.

During  a meeting with police officers led by deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Gen Paul Loketch, at State House Entebbe president Museveni who was recently declared winner of the January poll giving him another five-year shot to extend his rule to the fourth decade strongly warned them against involvement in corrupt practices.

“Corruption in the Police Force should stop. The police should heed my earlier communication on proper methods of arresting suspects, handling citizens and foreign guests. Do not harass, beat, push or bark at wanainchi for whatever reason. For retrogressive groups and hostile crowds, the security organs are guided by the legitimate means of the security forces on how to handle them. Do not let anybody threaten lives and property of Ugandans,” he said.
