MP Akampurira  raises red flag against Mob Justice in Rubanda district

The Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Akampurira Mbabazi Prossy Begumisa has raised a red flag against the high cases of mob justice in the district.

Hon Akampurira who doubles as a Commissioner of 11th Parliament revealed this while addressing the journalists in Rubanda district.
Her concern comes after a 21st December 2022 scenario year where a woman only identified as Kenema, a resident of Katojo village, Ikumba sub county Rubanda district was accused of masterminding the death of her husband Warren Mujuni 45 before the locals descended on her, beating her to death.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson told journalists that Mujuni was found murdered by unknown assailants at 7am along the way to his home in the morning of 21st December 2022 by a neighbor who made an alarm attracting others among them Kenema (his wife).

The Kigezi region Police spokesperson further said that the crowd grew bigger and started questioning her accusing her of constantly getting into daily fights with the deceased before lynching her to death.

A case of double murder was registered at Rubanda police station under the reference number CRB 475/2022.

According to the reports the commissioner has received from the locals, some have lost trust and hopes in the Uganda police from effecting the actions while others do mob justice without first carrying out proper investigations.

Akampurira condemned mob justice saying that the participants end up in prisons making their families suffer and that it has also led to loss of innocent lives.

She challenged the public to use the district security committee led by the RDC Mrs Lilian Ruteraho who is determined in settling out family conflicts amicably.

Akampurira commended the role played by the security and leaders in the district to fight mob justice in Kigezi sub region.
