AMBASSADOR ABBEY WALUSIMBI  MARKETING UGANDAN SPORTS THRU DIPLOMACY.

Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi held a meeting with a delegation from American Football Federation of Uganda (AFFU) led by their President Steven George Okeng, during which various strategies were discussed to see that the Sport is developed and promoted in Uganda.
Ambassador Walusimbi noted the need to use sports diplomacy as a tool which Uganda can use to achieve its foreign policy vision. “The transformation of sports diplomacy is key if the sector is to develop. We want to have a form of innovative diplomacy which Uganda can use to achieve its foreign policy vision,” Walusimbi noted.
He added that sports has played a role in promoting tourism in the Country, drawing an example from the World Cross Country Championships held in Uganda in 2017 which attracted tourists and investors.
 Okeng stressed that they are looking forward to a working relationship wish the Office and also streamline to have former and current NFL Players come to Uganda and hold football camps plus donate equipment to the team.
Hajji Walusimbi has welcomed the idea and believes that sports diplomacy could boost the county’s foreign policy. He also pledged to re-initiate ties between US Embassy in Kampala and the Sports Organizations in USA sighting immense development of the sport once the two bodies are working together.
The SPA/DA commended the team for their spirited effort to promote and develop the sport in Uganda.
Present at the meeting also was Dr. Benard Patrick Ogwel the General Secretary National Council of Sports, Mr. Yovino Okwir Okeng the Head Legal & Compliance and Mr. Abdul Kalinda.
