Being rich is beyond having cash or properties-Ham

Hamis Kiggundu presenting sh100 millions to the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda

Ham says being rich is beyond having cash or properties. The Kampala businessman who is also a lawyer, Hamis Kiggundu commonly known as Ham because of his arcades, which are named after him, floored fellow businessmen in Kampala recently.

Ham was the first businessman in Kampala to lead the vanguard against COVID-19.  He gave out sh 100 millions cash to the COVID-19 National Task Force, which he explained was to buy food for the vulnerable poor Ugandans.

The amiable lawyer turned into businessman, told journalists, who confronted him after he had just handed over the cash, that being rich is beyond cash and possessing properties.

Ham explained that helping people who are vulnerable is part of being rich. Other characteristics of rich people, Ham said, include humility, anger control and others.

Money alone does not make someone be rich holistically. Someone with money, but arrogant will not qualify as a rich man.

What would be the use of money if someone with money does not help his vulnerable neighbours?  As it is, most of the so called rich men in Kampala are spiritually poor.

Ham, actually proved that he was rich. Through his Ham Foundation, he donated the cash that left other Kampala businessmen agape. Moreover he is the youngest tycoon. Kampalans least expected him to act that way.

Yet Kampala has other big names who own city arcades and shopping centres and commercial plazas, who cannot giveback to the very society they milk from !

For instance, when was your last time you saw Drake Lubega and tycoon Young Matovu Mansoor run battles with  traders? Drake Lubega alone reportedly owns over 52  commercial buildings in Kampala while Young Matovu owns over 32 Shopping centres .

These and other owners of Kampala buildings are very silent possibly making out how to recover their rent over the lockdown period.  Now some have woken up  mbu they are preparing to storm the National Task Force.

If Tony Elumelu  and some Asian businessmen can come all the way from Nigeria and Asia to support Ugandans, why not the local businessmen?
