Ponsiano Lwakataka and Rose tie knot

Celebrated rally drivers Ponsiano Lwakataka and Rose Lwakataka have formalized their marriage. The two stars of Uganda’s motorsport have been cohabiting for 28 years.

They tied the knot at Rubaga Cathedral on Friday, October 15. They subsequently hosted their guests to a lavish, fun-filled reception at Akamwesi Gardens, Kyebando  on Gayaaza Road, in Kawempe Division.

The jovial couple thanked their relatives and friends, especially the members of Federation of Uganda Motorsport Clubs of Uganda, for supporting them, morally and financially.

Rose Lwakataka,  who has just been wedded was the USPA (Uganda Sport Press Association) Sports Personality for April 2008.  She was able to succeed in men dominated sport.

As if that was not surprising enough, Rose managed to balance her family life and her car racing career.

She was always referred to as “flying chick” because of her style when driving, Rose Lwakataka is not only famous because of her success on car races but also because she is a musician, an actress, and a mot her.

Rose Lwakataka, who has been cooking for the retired car racer Ponsiano Lwakataka, has finally been walked down the aisle.

Rose is one woman, who has demystified the theory most women hold that they cannot take the lead over men’s dominated sports.

Rose’s husband, Ponsiano Lwakataka dominated motorsport in the early 2000; that is 2001-2006. His dream debut in his new Subaru N5 turned into a nightmare when he rolled the car one kilometre to the flying finish in Mbarara in 2005.

As expected, Lwakataka and Late Riyaz Kurji had led the way as the Alpha Mbarara Rally 2005 got underway. Kurji, driving his Subaru Impreza N8,  was the favourite to win the rally in the absence of Charlie Lubega and Moses Lumala who had quit  the motorsport. That is the brief background of the motor sport rallying couple.
