Government dismisses Fred Lumbuye death

The Government of Uganda has dismissed reports that showed that Mr. Fred Lumbuye had died of the Turkey earth Quake.

In a statement about the disaster, the Ugandan ministry of foreign affairs said Fred Lumbuye is alive because the earth quake only affected people in the eastern side of the country.

According to the Ugandan ministry of foreign affairs, only three Ugandan nationals were affected by the earth quake. The three are residents of Diyarbakr and Turkiye.

“Of the three, only Ugandan sustained serious injuries and she’s being treated at Malatic City hospital. The Majority of Ugandans in various Turkey areas of Ankara, Instabul, Konya, Izmir and Antalya were not affected,” the ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement which they released on 11th, February, 2023

The ministry said that the two girls that were seen in a social media video asking for support from the Ugandan embassy in Turkey have been reached and will be provided with the necessary support

“We would also like to tell the public that no Ugandan died of the effects of the earthquake

The ministry urges all affected Ugandans in Turkey to go to the Ugandan embassy.

“The Uganda embassy in Ankara (Turkey) will continue to monitor and follow up on Ugandans in the country to see if they are okay,”the statement added.

The state Minister for International Relations, Henry Okello Oryem told a local TV channel after the disaster and said that government is ready to help anyone in distress, but that there were no plans for repatriating Ugandans from Turkey since the danger has passed.

According to him, those who wish can be helped to return home but said it would be imprudent because they could fail to go back for their livelihood.
