Idi Amin’s son eulogizes Hope Kivengere

Son of former President of Uganda, late Idi Amin Dada, Hussein Lumumba Amin holds fond memories about the fallen first Presidential Press Secretary of  President Yoweri Museveni; Hope Kivengere. Besides, Hussein Amin acknowledges Kivengere’s reconciliatory heart.

Hussein Amin remembers Hope Kivengere as a very meek person, who could not be recognized as very powerful background back at home.  He has written down a very touching eulogy below it reads:

Fellow Citizens,
I was pleasantly surprised to find Hope Kivengere (RIP) at the African Union – United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in Darfur.

I had just been transferred there and so fate had it that we worked together in the very same department at UNAMID headquarters in the Darfur capital of El-Fasher monitoring the genocide and armed rebellion that was taking place in that specific region at the time.

Her office was just across the corridor from mine. This was after she had left her job at Uganda’s Office of the President.

I remember a quiet and dedicated person who was very focused on her duties, and adapted very quickly to the meticulous standards of UN administrative professionalism.

She kept a very low profile, and therefore I was the only person who knew the kind of big personality she was back in Uganda.

In that environment of colleagues from all over the world, we became quite close as two colleagues from the same country, and I would always check on her if she was ok, or needed anything in town whenever I was going out of the office.

All this despite the difficult history between our two families in the 1970’s. The news of her passing is a big shock. My heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and all those who came to know her. May her humble soul rest in eternal peace!
