Artisan golfer Kamoga wins Palm Valley Open

Entebbe Club artisan golfer Brian Kamoga, claimed the inaugural Stanbic Bank Palm Valley Golf Open with an impressive score of 147 gross to claim his first major event in this golf career and also redeem himself for missing the cut at the national team qualifiers recently.

The Entebbe golfer claimed this feat at the 9 hole course at Kakungulu housing Estate at Palm Valley Golf and Country Club, he also halted national team captain Joseph Cwinyaai’s winning streak.

Jinja Club’s Grace Kasango and Toro Club’s Cwinyaai tied for second with 149 gross each. Kamoga was in blistering form on the par 72 course landing 8 birdies over 2 rounds enroute to his biggest winning in the New Year.

Cwinyaai, was riding on a long winning streak on the local amateur golf scene having won the most recent Kitante Open, he had taken a five stroke lead in the first round were he landed 7 birdies and a eagle in the first round on Thursday but collapsed in the second round carding nine over par 81 in the closing round thus missing an opportunity of completing a hat trick of
victories early in the season.

Entebbe Club’s Christopher Baguma finished fourth with 150 gross while Mehta Golf Club’s Godfrey Nsubuga finished fifth. Stanbic Bank, Pepsi Uganda, Case Hospital and Sky Beach Hotel sponsored the tournament.
This tournament was one of the Uganda Golf Union events and acts as a World Amateur Golf Ranking event.

Group A was won by John Basabose with 37 points, while Group B was claimed by Johnson Dairo with 39 points; Group C was won by Paul Kalemba with 42 points. Catherine Pavie was Ladies Group A winner with 30 points on count back while Group B was taken by Diana Nabalirwa with 35 points.
