By Drone Reporters

New Vision Editor, John Peter Kakande has retired . Kakande was one of the longest serving New Vision journalists; who had a penchant for political stories. In fact, at one time his political column had caused him trouble with the ruling government until he was ordered to stop it.

John Peter Kakande, a staunch Democratic Party (DP) supporter, but has always been handled with an iron hand by NRM agents.  He has been under severe monitoring because NRM knew his political sentiments would affect their political agenda.

Kakande, the grey – haired journalist, was a jolly editor, he would take break off his news desk to stroll around newsroom especially Ki-Russia (where Freelance Journalists operated from) to crack jokes with reporters.

He joined the Vision Group from Star/ Ngabo Group  in 1980s and has been instrumental in shaping the publication progressively in line with the media company’s “house style”. Vision Group CEO Don Wanyama yesterday thanked John Kakande for his tireless efforts, dedication, commitment and professionalism. He then wished him all success in his new life.

Kakande was reportedly replaced by John Eremu, who was forced to resign two years ago. Eremu has been rehired at New Vision as the Editor, replacing veteran, John Kakande who has had an illustrious 27 years of unbroken service at the company.

Upon receiving news of his rehiring, John Eremu reported told his friends, “It is a challenging role and I am counting on all of you to succeed. The appointment was announced by the CEO in a staff meeting yesterday afternoon with Felix Osike assuming the role of Deputy Editor in Chief – a new position in Vision Group structure. Arthur Baguma replaced Osike as Content Manager News and Current Affairs.

After failing to garner enough votes to send him to Parliament, Eremu was in April engaged by New Vision as a Special Projects Consultant. The Admin wanted to remove him but he requested to be allowed to stay on since the job wasn’t permanent.
