Katwe Police have arrested Kisangani robbers

Katwe Police officers have arrested robbers who have been terrorizing Kisangani Village in Kampala. According to residents, the robbers had turned the area into a Kisangani of DR Congo of sorts.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy PRO Kampala Metropolitan, has confirmed this operation to arrest the robbers. It came after the residents in Kisangani area in Masajja A Zone in Masajja Parish, Masajja Division; complained about the robbers.
Residents reportedly cried over incessant  robberies in the area especially aggravated robberies in and around Kampala.
In a statement  this afternoon, Owoyesigyire revealed that the territorial police at Katwe Police had arrested over 58 suspects from Kisangani.  The suspects, according to police, have been allegedly, participating in aggravated robberies, targeting residential houses and individuals in areas of Salaama, Masajja, Mutundwe and Bunamwaya.
While in the operation, Owoyesigyire said the police was able to recover narcotics, pangas, house-breaking implements and gloves that are used to cover fingerprints while robbers execute robberies. The robbers always hide their trails and tracks.
Owoyesigyire said the suspects arrested are currently detained at Katwe Police Division and will be processed and arraigned in courts of law.
“We want to also thank members of the public for providing reliable information to the police that made the operation a success,” Owoyesigyire said.
The robbers had literally taken over that part of the country. The locals in Kisangani lost hope, most of them would sleep as early as 7:00pm in fear of the robbers.
The machete wielding robbers, in fact, what made them popular is that residents thought they were highly connected. This conspiracy theory played it easy for the robbers to continue robbing the wananchi.  Recently, criminals devised means of duping gullible members of the public.
They often associate themselves with highly connected figures in government or impersonate security operatives. This state of affairs brings fears among members of the public, who will always be demoralized and reluctant to report to authorities.
