Makerere bans Phones at graduation ceremony

Makerere University has released guild lines that will be followed by graduates and other people that will be attending the 73rd graduation ceremony.The 73rd graduation ceremony will be held from Feb 13-17, 2023 at the freedom square

Before the final graduation list was released, the registrar Professor Buyinza Mukadasi issued the directive to college heads to submit their graduation lists to him for approval

For several years, students have been missing graduation on grounds that their names did not appear in the graduation book after failing to beat the deadline of updating their marks on the students’ portals.
According to Mukadasi, the exercise of displaying of graduation lists in Colleges was done from Nov 14 to Dec 2, 2022

The University Senate then sat on January 18th, 2023 and approved the final graduation list
The first draft of the Graduation Booklet was released in January, 2023 and students that are supposed to graduate picked them after fulfilling all the requirements need for one to graduate from the institution
Figures show that over 12,000 scholars will graduate with degrees and other disciplines that include masters and PHD’s.

The office has now released guild lines to be followed at the graduation that include banning of phones and cameras at the eventThose that will be allowed to have cameras will be media houses that the university invited to do media coverage

Other prohibited items include backpacks, canned food and drinks amongst many others.
Colleges slated to graduate students include College of Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, School of Law, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, College of Education and External Studies, Business and Management Sciences and College of Computing and Information Sciences.

Others are Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-security, Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences and Makerere University Business School.

This is the second physical graduation ceremony the university is holding after Covid-19 disruption that saw education institutions conduct their ceremonies virtually. Makerere held its 72rd graduation ceremony in May last year.
