Man Batters Sister Over Bride Price

The Police in Isingiro District are hunting for a man who beat up his sister and broke her arm after accusing her of frustrating his marriage. Resty Birungi paid the heavy price for apparently conspiring with her husband not to pay for her bride price to their family.

She told police that Kenneth Rwasande had demanded bride price from her husband, which he he could could not afford. According to Birungi, Rwasande wanted the money so that he could pay bride price for his wife.

His wife had abandoned him for the same reason. Rwasande resorted to the draconian measures after his latest attempt to convince Resty’s husband fell on deaf ears. Resty vowed to remain in the marriage.

Rwasande attacked the sister when her husband had gone to work on a Saturday. He claimed that Resty’s husband is a rich man but she had deliberately refused to introduce him. He said he was teaching Resty and her husband never to be stubborn again.

Efforts by Rwasande to convene a family meeting were futile.  The Drone Media established that Rwasande has since hatched plan B but it is as dangerous as it sounds.  He has been telling whoever cares to listen that he will press a curse on his sister until she begs for peace.

Prior to this incident, Rwasande had caused commotion in his home area; he kidnapped himself. However, the mission was not well planned.  Two things let him down; hunger and phone.  He thought his mobile phone was hiding identity yet it wasn’t.

Whenever he called to set a ransom the receivers would identify the number and laugh it off.  Besides, hunger did not favour his moves.  As he tried to con the relatives through fake kidnap; hunger whipped him thoroughly. Rwasande gave up the mission
