MONEY MEANT FOR YOUTH,ELDERLY AND PWDS ELECTION WENT MISSING.

By Correspondent

President Yoweri Museveni has called for an investigation over missing NRM money that was supposed to be used to facilitate party mobilisers during the 2021 general elections

Kirunda Faruk, President Museveni’s private Secretary in charge of Media Management said the investigation is intended to clean the party and to emphasize the element of accountability.

Sources within the ruling party allege that some Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) connived with some district and local NRM chairpersons to pocket the money that had been released by the Secretariat to do the party work.

According to the party head of political intelligence at the office of the national chairperson (ONC) Saleh Kamba, money scandals among NRM officials are one of the reasons why the party lost in some parts of the country. He says some mobilisers were left disappointed when their facilitation was swindled and in turn they never did what they were supposed to do.

“Some RDCs used their powers as RDCs and removed money from our coordinators claiming that they were going to supply it to the campaigners but we have discovered that some didn’t deliver the money to the campaigners on the ground but instead used it to cater for their personal needs.

This is wrong and it’s against the laws of both the country and the party,” Kamba said, adding that they ordered the directorate of investigation to embark on investigating RDCs whose names are found on the list of suspects.

Kamba further noted that the investigation is to be carried out countrywide to find out who used the campaign money for his/ her personal programmes.

Faruk Kirunda Faruk, President Museveni’s private Secretary in charge of Media Management said the investigation is intended to clean the party and to emphasize the element of accountability.

He added that in districts like Mityana, many NRM polling agents did not receive their money yet they did a great job.

“There are a lot of complaints in Mityana district that some people who guarded the votes of candidate Yoweri Kaguta did not receive money yet our finance department at Kyambogo dispersed money all over the country at the district level. So we need to find out where the money went.”

It must also be remembered that during the presidential campaigns, the NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba wrote to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) calling for an investigation on the party district secretaries who allegedly pocketed money that was supposed to facilitate its flag bearers in the youth, the Elderly and People with Disabilities (PWDs) positions.
