Mutuuzo pins energy drinks on teenagers pregnancies

State minister for Gender and Culture, Hon Peace Mutuuzo says energy drinks, are worsening teenage pregnancies.

“When we see our young girls getting pregnant it’s not because of COVID-19, it’s more of these drinks and energy drinks. Our people are being deceived that they give manpower. In the evening, when they get intoxicated, they don’t spare our young girls?” Mutuuzo reveals.

Coffee is a recognizable energy booster. The caffeine in coffee makes the body and mind feel alert and may make people more productive. Coffee also contains antioxidants called polyphenols, which may reduce oxidative stress in the cells and help the body function better.

However, gullible Ugandans today rush for much advertised energy drinks, which end up misleading them into committing crimes as well as sin. Such energy drinks like ‘Mukama nayamba” are more advertised, which makes people think they give sex prowess.  Yes, the energy drinks do give sex prowess, but it is misguided.

Minister Mutuuzo is very right to speak against energy drinks. They are intoxicating men, who in the end turn their frustration and libido to gullible teenagers.

When you consume more than adequate quantities in one go, the risks multiply. This can push your body to face danger from apparent caffeine toxicity-which can cause your heart rates to rapidly rise, spike blood pressure, increase tremors and symptoms of a stroke. All of these can be fatal. These are some of the issues Ugaandans should know about energy drinks.

An industry of energy drinks laced with sildenafil citrate — the chemical composition best known by the brand name Viagra — is rapidly spreading in East and Southern Africa, with Uganda as ground zero.
