NWSC and KCCA officials cited in a bribe

Part of the K Hotel and around it is the sewage flowing

National Water and Sewage Corporation (NWSC) together with the KCCA (Kampala City Council Authority) officials cited in a bribe that has caused Old Kampala residents sleepless nights.

The officials allowed illegal construction of buildings along Sir Apollo Kagwa Road in Old Kampala and also tempered with the sewers without legal permission.

K Hotel on Sir Apollo Kagwa Road was constructed in the road reserve

Well, the first thorn in the flesh of the residents, is the tall building housing K Hotel adjacent Shell filling station on Sir Apollo Kagwa Road in Old Kampala.

The building was constructed in the middle if the road and on the top of a sewage line. Surprisingly, this building was constructed while KCCA officials were around. Residents say that KCCA pick up trucks would stay there for hours while it was being constructed.

The second thorn in the residents’ flesh is the sewage which floods now and then. Residents say that the original sewage line was tempered with by NWSC staff who came and dug at night.

Sewage flowing on Sir Apollo Kagwa Road

The NWSC staff were reportedly hired ( bribed) by the management of Sir Apollo Kagwa Primary School, which was illegally connected to the main sewer/sewage line.

Thereafter, Shell now Evo Energy also hired the NWSC staff who illegally connected it on the original small sewer line.

The OPM (Office of Prime Minister), which is in charge of refugees, was also added to this small sewer line, illegally.

Now, this, according to Old Kampala residents, would not be much of their worries. However, the corrupt officials did not consider their health. The original sewer was designed for less population but now they overloaded it. It cannot carry the load of all those illegal sewers.

Residents say they are convinced money exchanged hands because the officials were working only at night.

Today, the sewage is overflowing and human excreta is seen all day, yet women sell food staffs around. The whole village is flooded as you can see the photos.
