Ochola Orders for Arrest of 200 Civilians over Police Fuel

Police Chief Martin Okoth Ochola has ordered the director of Criminal Investigations AIGP Grace Akullo to summon over 200 civilians who have been consuming police fuel while not doing police activities.

Our reliable sources close to the office of IGP intimated to us that Ochola directed Grace Akullo to take action on Tuesday after a special audit was conducted and found out over 200 civilians were consuming police fuel to conduct their own businesses.

The source said most of the people who were on the list are political leaders and majority from the Ruling NRM party.

Among them on the list include, Jailed Abdul Kitata the NRM chairman Lubaga Division, Hajji Kiyimba the Mayor Nsangi town Council, Sebina Sekitoleko, Sumin Nabaggerekka an NRM mobiliser among others.

The reliable source added that all the 200 people mentioned each had a fuel card of about 5000 liters of fuel every month and was being paid for by police at Shell and Total companies across the country.

It is reported that these 200 civilians were consuming fuel worth 300m monthly.

“I want you summon all civilians who were consuming police fuel yet they were not police officers to explain where they were taking that fuel,” a source quoted IGP Okoth Ochola directing CID Boss Akullo.

“Most of the civilians were using police fuel for their political activities and their businesses so they must account for it,” another told us.

It is further reported that civilians made police to lose over shs 3bn in the last three years in fuel arrears.

The criminal summons to the affected persons would be issued in not more than a week.

“They will be summoned to CID headquarters in Kibuli to record their statements and we don’t expect them to leave,” a source from CID Kibuli told us.

Uganda Police is currently experiencing a fuel crisis that has crippled its day-to-day operations.
Fuel companies supplying the police force have stopped supplying.
