Kanungu woman commits suicide over debts

 

A woman in Kanungu District has reported hanged herself. Police at the district have opened up investigations into the mysterious suicide of a 35 year old woman who ended her life by hanging in a tree.

According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate, the deceased was identified as Tumusiime Jolly a resident of Busheregyenyi village in Ngala Parish, Mpungu Sub County.

Maate told our reporter that it’s alleged that the deceased has been having long term domestic dispute with her husband Begumisa Gracious who is alleged to have sold off all family land.

Maate told our reporter that the residents told Police that after selling the family land, he left for Kibale District where he settled.

The deceased is reported to have picked a nylon rope on Friday morning leaving her children at home and went to her father in-law farm where she hanged her self in a tree.

Her father in law identified as Kabajarika Vanansi on learning about the suicide, he reported to Mpungu Police Post who arrived, took relevant statements, did a Postmortem report and ordered that the body to be buried.

The case was registered at Mpungu Police Station under reference number SD 09/25/03/2021 to help in further investigation.

Kanungu District was created by the sixth Parliament of Uganda in July 2001. The district comprises one county with the twelve sub-counties of Kihihi, Kambuga.
