Kampala at lockdown over Covid-19

Kampala has been locked down and police are impounding beers. If there are people who have gained out of Covid-19 pandemic in Uganda, it is police; they are impounding beers. Police in various parts of the country are squeezing adamant citizens very hard.

The Drone Media observed, in Nakulabye, Kasubi and Kosovo, officers of LDUs (Local Defense Units) and police, impounding beers and pork, claiming the owners of items had defied presidential directives.

One of the residents in Nakulabye, Jomo Kasule asked, ” Will the impounded beer and pork be presented as exhibits?” Kasule’s question is left hanging, nobody has yet answered it. Kasule later on told The Drone Media that the unfortunate part of it all was that the exhibits had no suspects.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has addressed Ugandans  four times giving them clear guidelines, but some adamant individuals choose to defy the president.  Those who defy the president they always fall into the hands of corrupt officers, who enrich their pockets as well as stomachs.

Last evening, the president told Ugandan traders to reorient their business models and engage in safer deliveries using means such as bodas and online trading. So the business is online now.  The safe boda will mainly be used to carry food stuffs, but The Drone Media has observed that Uber taxi has, all of a suddenly, taken over this business. There is no bad day for everyone.

Meanwhile security has finally deployed to intercept and in some incidences forced to use force against defiant public transport operators in various parts of the country.

Hundreds of passengers leaving Kampala to various destinations are being intercepted and drivers arrested.

A coaster carrying over 40 people was heading to Soroti from Kampala and was towed to CPS.

“We are arresting only the driver and his turn boy, you (passengers) can continue your journey on foot,” explained one of the police officers.

Adding: “Walk up to your destinations, after all you’ve been trekking to Namugongo for Marty’s prayers.”
