Uganda Police Force has intercepted thugs and more than 160 phones were recovered.

According to a Police statement, the officers in Bujjuko on Tuesday intercepted thugs who had robbed people in Kawempe.

The arrest followed a phone call from Kawempe, Lugoba Police that the thugs had robbed the area and proceeded to Mityana Rd, the OC Bujuuko together with LDUs responded immediately and intercepted the said thugs as they were proceeding towards Nswanjere LCI and Jezza where they werr intercepted.

The thugs were intercepted in a motor vehicle reg no UBE 631H Toyota Alex.

However, one thug took off and one was arrested.
The thug who was arrested was identified as Allan Ggayi, a resident of Kyanja Gayaza and the one who took off is called Ssozi Tonny a resident of Entebbe road.

When the vehicle was searched, we found over 160 mobile phones.
It has since been established that these thugs
were targeting mobile money agents by pretending that they are either withdrawing or depositing money and in that process they exchange their phones with the agent or steal the agent’s phone without the agents’ knowledge.
Ggayi was transferred to Kawempe Police station and the likely charges are robbery and theft.
The hunt for for Ssozi Tonny who is on the run continues.

We appeal to members of the public whose phones were stolen in this manner to report to Kawempe Police station or to the other Police where they could have reported the cases.

Of late there has been a wave of criminal gangs, which has inflicted terror on bonafide Ugandans. The president decreed that a quick solution should be devised by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Major General Steven Muzeeyi Sabiiti.

It is not surprising that the decree seems to have bitten. The thugs have been harvested like grasshoppers.
