President Museveni greets Dr. Kiiza Besigye

Kiiza Besigye

President Museveni has surprised Ugandans who think otherwise and greeted former FDC presidential candidate Kizza Besigye at the Anglican Shrine during today’s Martyrs Day prayers.

This has left many Ugandans perplexed because they expected the two who engaged in a “defeat_win” battle, to have showed it head on. #thedronemedia#

However, this is not the first time President Museveni is surprising his subjects as well as his foes. He always portrays this kind of unprecedented humility whenever the public expects not.

This week Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s party (FDC) Forum For Democratic Change, defeated National Resistance Movement (NRM), which is chaired by President Museveni.

While the FDC was represented by Betty Muzanira, the NRM was represented by Winnie Matsiko. This was a by_ election that attracted exaggerated political attention; all the political big wigs were engaged in the campaigns, including the president.

While the ruling party had its presence felt by presenting top dogs like Major Gen. Tumukunde; Major Gen. Jim Muhwezi among many, Kiiza Besigye’s FDC presented people like Erias Lukwago, the Kampala’s mayor and musician turned into politician, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

The political game was taken too far to the extent that Ugandans thought these people were enemies. However, today’s presidential handshake between Dr. Kiiza Besigye and President Museveni is a good gesture.

This should serve as a teaching aid to Ugandans. It shows that in politics there is no permanent enemies. It is a pity to the rest of Ugandans who fight themselves yet the political leaders are exchanging joyous moments.

It should be remembered that no business of Dr. Kiiza Besigye has ever been affected by his position in Uganda’s politics. He allegedly owns various petrol filling stations, private security companies etc but none has ever been heard in jeopardy.  Why then should you and your fellow businessman clash over politics?
