Rubirizi mob sets house on fire over witchcraft

The Police in Rubirizi Rubirizi District are investigating circumstances under which a mob burnt down an 80 year old woman’s house.

The house and goat belonging to Kabadiki Deodanta resident of kakindo katanda Sub County in Rubirizi district were on 17th January 2023 burnt by residents accusing her of witchcraft.

It is alleged that on 9th January 2023, the victim entered into the house of one Jaruwa, a fellow resident after which his daughter fell sick.

SP Marcial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson told journalists that the girl was taken to a pastor who claimed she had been bewitched by Kabadiki.

SP Tumusiime adds that on 17th January 2023 at around 4Pm, a group of people attacked Kabadiki’s home, demolished it and later burnt all property plus her goat.SP Tumusiime confided to this reporter that they have already recorded some statements and recovered some exhibits but no arrests have been made.
